"Monster" Season 2 Is Going to Be a Lot Different Than Season 1

True-crime fans, brace yourselves. "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story," the wildly popular (and highly controversial) Netflix limited series following Evan Peters's Jeffrey Dahmer, is getting two more seasons.
Despite widespread controversy and concerns about the show romanticizing serial killers and failing the families of Dahmer's real-life victims, "Monster" drew in viewers, and they couldn't look away. Four weeks after its release, "Monster" became the second-most-watched English-language series in Netflix's history, beaten only by "Stranger Things" season four.
Netflix's Head of Global TV Bela Bajaria praised cocreators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, calling them and "Watcher" cocreator Eric Newman "masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world" in a statement (via Variety).
The first season of "Monster" tells a complete story with a very definitive finale, and no official date for season two has been announced. Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter he spent more than three years researching and creating the 10 episodes about Dahmer. Given the show's popularity, Netflix may not want to wait quite that long to air season two. Either way, fans will have a while to wait.

"Monster" Season 2 Plot
Netflix announced "Monster" will be an anthology series rather than continuing the story from one season to the next. Instead of trying to tell more of Dahmer's story, the next two installments will each focus on "other monstrous figures who have impacted society."

Who Will "Monster" Season 2 Focus On?
It has yet to be announced which "monstrous figures" the next two seasons will explore. There are hundreds of identified serial killers throughout American history alone who could be chosen. It's also possible the showrunners could expand their definition of a "monster" to people other than serial killers.

Monster Season 2 Cast
No official announcements have been made regarding casting season two at this early stage. Considering the characters are based on real people and the storylines in season one were quite accurate, it's unlikely any of the cast or characters will overlap between seasons.

Will Ryan Murphy Return For "Monster" Season 2?
In 2018, Murphy inked a five-year, $300 million deal with Netflix to create and produce shows on its streaming service. With the deal ending in the summer of 2023, Murphy would be free to pursue deals with other production companies. While the outcome of any new contract shouldn't impact the show being made, it could change how involved Murphy is in the second and third installments of "Monster." At the moment, there's no official word on Murphy's level of involvment.
