Mindy Kaling Promises More "Steamy Romance" in "Never Have I Ever" Season 3

Netflix's teen dramedy "Never Have I Ever" returns on Aug. 12, and creator Mindy Kaling tells POPSUGAR there's a whole lot more in store for fans this time around — particularly with Devi's (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) love life.

"Romance-wise, we have these two very different types of guys that she's [into] with Paxton (Darren Barnet) and Ben (Jaren Lewison)," she says. "They're so funny and both have really great storylines this season . . . So I think we just try to do lots of surprises, while also having a ton of steamy romance and stuff like that." Kaling also shares that season three introduces some "great new Indian characters" and a "really hot Indian guy" (played by Anirudh Pisharody) as Devi's new love interest, which she says is a "nice change of pace" for the series.

Netflix released "Never Have I Ever"'s season three trailer on July 27, which shows Devi and Paxton — and their new relationship troubles — returning to Sherman Oaks High. The short clip also teases other romantic woes with the rest of Devi's crew, plus a reveal of her new beau. In case you haven't been rewatching the show for the millionth time (is that just me?) and need a refresher, season two ends with a bombshell revelation, and we need answers, stat.

Not only do Devi and Paxton finally start dating exclusively, but Ben may or may not still be in love with her . . . even though he's dating Aneesa (Megan Suri). While Devi still has a lot of growing up to do, she's come a long way in dealing with her father's sudden death and repairing her friendships and relationships with her family.

Meanwhile, Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez), Eleanor (Ramona Young), and Devi's cousin Kamala (Richa Moorjani) are still trying to figure out their identities and get a better handle on their romantic relationships. We're especially interested to see if Kamala will strike up a friendship (or more) with Devi's high school teacher after running away from what would've been her engagement dinner.
